Flew into LA this morning for a two day consulting engagement... didn't have to be anywhere until noon, so I took the bus to Union Station, and decided to walk a mile downtown to the office. Big mistake. Every damn street in this town turns into a highway.

The crazy part is, it's not always clear when the street to 10 lane superspeedway transition is about to happen... the sidewalk just gets narrower and narrower until it all but disappears and you find yourself stranded on a 6 inch wide median with a guy talking to himself (presumably about how to rescue his shopping cart from the other median inexplicably placed 4 lanes over... not that anyone could ever get there). So I ended up having to decide whether to backtrack 3 blocks to the last reasonable cross street, or eff it and try the adventure route... so I hopped the rail, bounced down the hillside, through a small homeless encampment and over the fence the fine campers had conveniently trampled and wah-lah! Found myself right in the middle of S. Fig. (I learned today that the -ueroa is entirely superfluous. Like sidewalks I suppose.) I probably just picked the wrong street to try and cross over, but still... what do you have to do for a pedestrian overpass in this town? right. nothing. it's LA. I shoulda just rented a car like everyone else.
