The Value of Firebus
According to www.dnscoop.com, the domain www.firebus.com is worth a resounding $250. That's awesome. For reference, www.dailykos.com comes in at $15,000,000 and www.espn.com is worth $20,000,000.
So that seems sad. This is a great website. Much cooler than at least a few I've been too. And definitely the only one where I get to write whatever I want. Now, I don't know if I'd pay $250 for it in these times of economic downturn, but someone with deeper pockets than I certainly should at least think about it. This freaking place is positively recession proof! Firebus is a TWO-TIME third place winner in the anti-caption contest at www.radosh.net (www.dnscoop.com value: $84,500). Firebus was on NPR for the love of jeebus. This is the site that brought you Wangston's Law! $250 my ass. I'm giving this joint a strong "Buy" rating.
But what can we do about this travesty of interwebular judgment? Well, the fine folks at dnscoop suggest monetizing the website to increase its value. In business school, I learned (*Among other things) that monetizing means to make money off of something. So that stands to reason, since to be worth more, the site should demonstrate the capacity to make money. B-school is chock full of such useful concepts...) OK, so we need to make money, but how? Well, first, I'd suggest we collect all the underpants. Then, step 3.... profit.
Or, we could try marketing... I kinda learned about that in school too. IIRC, the first thing we need to do is take the beaks off the chickens and give them red contact lenses. Sadly, this may have been made illegal in CA tuesday. Bummer.
ooh... I've got it... let's monetize AND market! How about t-shirts that say: "Shut up and Google it. -Wangston" I'd buy one.
*I also learned that Little's Law is a fancy business school way to say "Distance = Rate * Time" which you all learned in 7th grade science, but since no one told you about Little, so you didn't know he mattered. The good news is, like much of b-school classroom material, he doesn't. And if only you'd been smart enough to apply your 7th grade science class to an operational flow problem in a factory, then you coulda called it "Mylastname's Law" and you'd be just like Little, and be the cause of much undeserved consternation from folks that aspire to be CEO's someday, but aren't all that good at basic mathematics, and well, not matter.
**We were also about to learn about options, risk and debt valuation, but those concepts were deemed WAY too hard for a finance class of grad students which judging by recent events, were concepts also skipped at other major universities as well.
***Now here's someone who paid way more attention than I did at business school and well, judging by our respective blog content, it shows. (Hi Sara!)

that is so excellent. i should marry firebus just so i can steal his $250 website in a divorce settlement.
forget the t-shirt. i want the underpants. like a bra that says:
"tw" ( o ) "w"
on each lady friend.
thanks for the brilliant post, abbott.
Monetizing this web site would be
the worst thing in the world
Wangston
t-shirts would be awesome.
i keep clicking, but there is no link...
You need better blog-fu. Linkout the site you're discussing, and don't bother linking the site you're BLOGGING ON. Just, you know, if you wanna.
My Blog-fu
Didn't like my links? See if this works.
To be clear, I have made edits to patronize you. Not because I wanted to. Now go harass someone else.
If there are no links
then what are you clicking on?
I count two links in this post, which is more links than no links.
If you're clicking on them, and nothing is happening, then you should contact your IT department - it's probably an issue with your browser.
Also, please note the name of this web site :)
