Bass said the new revenues, which will account for $11.3 billion, would include a three-year hike in the state sales tax, a new oil severance tax of 9.9 percent and a nickel-a-drink tax on alcoholic beverages in the state." (emphasis mine)

um, awesome. Let me get this straight. We're gonna cut 10 billion from education, slash social services, cease all investment in infrastructure and definitely, under no circumstances do ANYTHING that might stimulate the economy or get our debt rating out of Louisiana's neighborhood (seriously)... and in the meantime, all people you just put out of work now have to cough up an extra nickel for their booze? Eff it. Make it a quarter. I'm on a diet anyway.

The sad part is (and really, there are so many choices here) that this is what the GOOD guys came up with. I don't even want to think about the repugs plan. The state is 90 days from being completely broke and the best these a-holes can come up with are paltry sin taxes that disproportionately hit the lowest tiers of the economy. What a raging bunch of asswads.

Maybe we should have a Worst Fundraiser in The World to prop up CA and help stave off insolvency through booze. I bet if we get a bunch of Haas kids fired up we could raise a buck or two in PBR tariffs...
