Oops, I did it again
I OWN third place in the New Yorker Anti-Caption Contest
If number 2 tries harder, what does number 3 do?
I'm number 3, I'm a kind of excrement that doesn't exist? (Or is number 3 vomit?)
New Yorker Anti-Caption Contest: Third Place
I got third place in last week's New Yorker Anti-Caption Contest.
This betters my previous best of "honorable mention" (which was just beginner's luck).
If you don't think it's funny, that's kind of the point.
Upcoming Concerts
Oakland Symphony Chorus is singing on November 2 as part of the Dedication of the Sepulchre ceremony at the Oakland Cathedral of Christ the Light on Lake Merritt.
We're singing Bruckner's Locus Iste and Fauré's Requiem.
Wanna write a novel?
It is with and overwhelming sense of relief and fatigue that I announce that the 2008 National Novel Writing Month and NaNoWriMo YWP sites are open for business.

You totally want to write a novel in November.
Hanging out with smart people can make you a winner
A team from Ellen's work won the pub quiz at Elephant and Castle last night.
I didn't show up until the 3rd round, and I think I gave as many wrong answers as right answers, so my contribution was minimal. But I still bragged a lot about my correct answers.
The psychology of coming to a consensus when no one knows an answer and different people have different ideas of a best guess is interesting.
The Hall of Halls
On July 4th I had the privilege to perform Nolan Gasser's "American Festivals" oratorio with the Festival del Sole Chorus at the Lincoln Theatre in Yountville.
Here's a Review from the Napa Valley Register

Upcoming Concerts
If for some reason you want to hear the Oakland Symphony Chorus (of which I am a member) sing the Carmina Burana in the near future, here are your options:
With the Californa Symphony, in Walnut Creek, on Sunday May 4 or Thursday May 6. Ticket Link.
Lustrous and Large
I had my second concert with the Oakland Symphony Chorus and the Contra Costa Times saw fit to review it.

The disturbance at the beginning of the show that the article mentions was pure Oakland. An old guy, who was kind of out of it, wouldn't stop talking. I suspect he was was unaware that he was in a concert hall.
Michael Morgan started and then stopped twice as the man bellowed things like "WHY ARE YOU TELLING ME TO BE QUIET?!?!".
Sundance
We went to Sundance on the coattails of the good people of IndieGoGo. Thanks to Deano for guessing that their site was built with RoR, so that I could look smart talking to Eric about it. Deano is a good guesser.
I sat on my ass
8 movies in 4 days.
I'm pretty sure that this is more than I've seen (in-theatre or as rental) in the prior 365 days. "Transformers", "Little Miss Sunshine", and The Simpsons" is all I can remember seeing. God, I suck. There might have been one or two more, but definitely not 8.
